FIRST LANDING ON THE HOLY LAND
HISTORY
The pioneer pilot, who crossed the skies of Israel for the first time, even before the establishment of the state, was not Jewish. December 27, 1913. Exactly ten years and ten days after the pioneers of aviation (the Wright brothers) first flew an airplane, a mustachioed Frenchman landed on the sands of the northern coast of Jaffa. Revered by his people, an aviation pioneer in his country, Monsieur Jules Vedrines, and he 32 years old.

ROSH PINNA AIRPORT HISTORY
Construction of the airfield began in 1943 by the British Army. The airfield was initially used by the Royal Air Force against the Vichy French army in Syria. The airfield had two cross runways, 1,080 metres long and 40 metres wide, with surrounding taxiways. The airfield was home to No. 3 Squadron of the Royal Australian Air Force, which was equipped with Curtiss P-40 Warhawks.
